Taking the bread and the cup, he established his supper to serve as a perpetual reminder of himself in the new covenant, and this by way of command to his disciples: ‘This is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me... This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is shed for you’ (Luke 22:19-20). And ‘supper being ended’ (John 13:2), Jesus, having washed his disciples’ feet, gave them more of his law:
