1 Timothy is a letter that explains how the Household of God is to operate, see 1 Timothy 3:15.
Biblically Speaking, 'glory' is not an easy word to define. One commentator described glory as "the full weight of the full Truth of God in His fullness." Thus glory is the weight of God.
There are two reactions to the weightiness of God:
Revelation 6:15-18 illustrates the unbeliever. They run and seek escape from it. They don't want to see the face of God.
The other response is found in Revelation 7:9-12. These are believers bowing under the weight of God, not in fear and terror but in praise, awe, and worship.
So how do we live in doxology? how do we live under the weightiness of God and bow in worship instead of fear?
We must recognize 3 things. We must recognize:
1) God's grace. 2) God's character. 3) Eternity.
The Westminster Shorter Catechism asks, “What is God?” God is a Spirit, infinite, eternal, and unchangeable, in his being, wisdom, power, holiness, justice, goodness, and truth.
This is good description of the weight of God.
God's glory is His infinite, eternal and unchanging being, wisdom, power, holiness, justice, goodness and truth. This is the full weight of the full Truth of God in His fullness. |
