The beautiful story of Ruth is given for our instruction; we upon whom the ends of the world have come, can benefit from it greatly. It is the story of God's bringing earthly security and happiness to two of His elect people; a mother and her daughter. The greatest security that Naomi could have ever given Ruth in her earthly life, was sought for and found on this night when she sent Ruth down to the threshing floor where Boaz was. I have already stated to you that it is my belief that Boaz is an eminent type of our Savior, our Lord Jesus Christ. I also believe that Ruth is an eminent type of the believer who wants to know God better. In these verses she is the type of every believer who wants to bear fruit for God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Naomi is the picture of all Christian mothers who would like to find security for their Christian daughter. They would like to see their daughter marry a godly man, but even more they would like to see them spiritually be able to bear fruit unto Christ in love for the truth, and good works, and begetting spiritual children. How does all of this come about? If you as mothers would have your Christian daughter bear fruit to God in the way that she lives her life, you must do as Naomi did; you must teach her to go to the threshing floor of prayer and have secret dealings with Christ. This, I believe, is the way not only for Christian daughters to bear fruit to God, but it is also the way for all Christians to bear fruit to God.
