Aim: To be vigilant and watchful—always knowing that God's grace will overcome ''Satan's day'' as it afflicts Christ's church.
Exegesis: Satan's day may come upon us unexpectedly. He employs any means (v. 21) and opportunity (vv. 22-23) against us. Satan's day may come upon us suddenly, through evil agents (vv. 24-25) and legitimate agency (v. 26). Satan's day may come upon us grievously. Our enemies may scorn us (vv. 27-28), but our friends will honor us (v. 29).
Key verse: v. 21 ''Then an opportune day came when Herod on his birthday gave a feast for his nobles, the high officers, and the chief men of Galilee.''
