Paul anticipates five antagonistic, attacking questions in this morning’s text. And these questions Paul felt were sure to come because he has just dismantled the Jews false security. False security with respect to their relationship to the Law. False security with the whole idea of the covenant sign of circumcision. The Jewish opponent’s counterattack will come. But Paul is showing us that he is prepared. So this morning we are going to untangle these five questions that challenge God’s right to judge sinners: 1. Are you implying that God made a mistake? If your message is true, then what is the advantage of being a Jew? 2. Are you saying that God abandoned His promises? Does the unbelief of a Jew cancel the faithfulness of God? 3. If what you say is true is God right to judge? If a Jew’s unrighteousness demonstrates God’s righteousness, is God right to judge him? 4. If what you teach is true, am I really such a sinner? If my lie brings glory to God, am I really so bad? 5. If your message is really true, is my sin completely bad? If my lie brings glory to God, why not lie some more?
