It was the Apostle James, when speaking of the trials of the believer's faith, who said, " If any man lack wisdom, let him ask of God, who giveth liberally and upbraideth not" (James 1). The context is the trying of the believer's faith and reveals not only God's great patience and mercy in our seeking such wisdom, His giving liberally and upbraiding us not for the countless times we seek such wisdom; but, the believer's slowness and stubbornness to understand such trials. In this shor series we will be examining the trying of the believer's faith through that of Job, in hopes that the Word of God would reveal unto us that "wisdom" needed for us to understand why the trying of our faith is precious. Today's lesson is those graces which God would esteem more precious when tried. Not that there are other areas of our faith that are not precious, but with Job God reveals to us those graces He holds in esteem when our faith is tried. Many believers set the emphasis of faith tried on “moving mountains,” or that they become more bold, confident and dogmatic in their convictions. Yet, the trying of that faith which God emphasizes in Job are those graces and virtues of a godly man.
“Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and upright man, one that feareth God and escheweth evil?” It is as though God would have Satan envy and despise Job for his having a godly character and that these graces are the graces which God would have Satan tempt in Job.
The trying of our faith should reveal the preciousness of those graces and virtues which manifest a greater Christlikeness in our character and conduct.
