No one should expect to follow Jesus in this world and not have his portion of suffering. But we must do like Paul and do some "reckoning" or taking account of things in the right light. Our sufferings get us down and defeat us when we focus on ourselves and the present circumstances. Not so when we include eternity and the things God has promised to his children. When we take all that into account it is obvious that the "sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared to the glory that shall be revealed in us."
