The doctrine of the virgin birth of Jesus Christ rests on clear statements in the Bible as well as on the unequivocal proclamation of Jesus Christ that He is the Son of God. Such a designation would only be possible if His birth were the result of the incarnation that resulted from the immaculate conception of the Lord's body in the womb of the Virgin Mary. The doctrine of the virgin birth is not a matter for speculation or optional belief. To pretend that it doeesn't matter how Jesus was born is to suggest that the Gospel can be reinvented to answer the skepticism of each generation. But these texts allow no other conclusion than that Jesus was born to the Virgin Mary.
