What do you give to someone who already has everything? What do you pray for someone who has already been blessed with 'every spiritual blessing'? In our passage this week (Ephesians 1:15-23) Paul doesn't pray the saints in Ephesus would be given something more. He doesn't ask God to bless them with some second or extra special blessing. Instead, he prays that those who have already been blessed in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places might know God and the nature of his blessings all the more. Paul knows what we need for life and faith. He knows what it is we need to live faithfully in this life. And it's not more 'stuff'. He prays that we might know God better, and that we might be given greater insight into the blessings we have received in Christ. May God the Father 'open the eyes of our hearts' to these glorious riches.
