Jesus' interaction with mothers and other women was always gentle as recorded in the Gospels, even when they were quite wrong.
It does not appear that Christ had any malicious enemies among women. All His opposers appear to have been men - scribes, Pharisees, priests, rulers.
Mary His mother rejoiced in God her Savior, and her soul magnified the Lord. But she did wrongfully rebuke the child Jesus, and He responded most gently to her. She tried to get Jesus involved at the marriage feast, but He found a way to satisfy her somewhat improper request discretely, for His time had not yet come. Sometimes, she worried about his frenetic ministry, knowing that He was angering the rulers, but He gently turned aside her wrong-headedness.
At the end, Mary stood witness as they crucified Her dear Son, probably not knowing that He was dying to save all His loved ones, including His mother, from their sins.
In the end, she was faithful to believe on Jesus, joining herself to His people, the congregation of believers, after He ascended unto glory.
There were other faithful mothers and women who handled domestic matters for Jesus during His ministry, and it was their humble faithfulness to Christ that resulted in their being the very first to witness His glorious resurrection!
Who can forget Christ's rescue of the poor widow who had lost her only son, when Jesus, moved with compassion for her, raised her son from the dead right in the middle of the funeral procession!
Jesus was very kind to James and John's mother, when she improperly asked Him to exalt her two sons above the other disciples. He explained the higher role of service to His people. |
