In Romans 3:19-20, Prosecutor Paul presents his closing argument by outlining four facts that prove his charge that every human being outside of Christ is without excuse and guilty in God's court, worthy of His righteous wrath. Fact 1: We know that the Old Testament Scriptures condemn non-believing Jews who are under the law and prove that they are under sin because fo their disobedience (v. 19a, 9-18). Fact 2: The law brings the knowledge of sin, not salvation (v. 20b). Fact 3: No person can be declared righteous (justified) in this court by claiming obedience to the law because all have disobeyed it (v. 20a). Fact 4: Every person's mouth (both the Jew who is under the law and the Gentile who is without the law, 2:12) will be stopped because they have no acquitting evidence to bring against the charge: They are held guilty and held accountable to God (v. 19b).
