Aim: To revel in the fact that Jesus took our place on the cross, thus giving us resurrection life!
Exegesis: Barabbas' ''resurrection'' was not deserved. He, like us, was a sinner (vv. 15-16) and unworthy (vv. 17-18). Barabbas' ''resurrection'' was miraculous. His hope, like ours, depended on the Savior's death (vv. 19-20) and mercy (vv. 21-23). Barabbas' ''resurrection'' is our experience as well. We have done injustice (v. 24); we deserve everlasting punishment (v. 25); we may experience the great exchange (v. 26).
Key verse: v. 26 ''Then [Pilate] released Barabbas to them; and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered Him to be crucified.''
