Let's learn a theology word: "antediluvian" ! The origin is Latin ("deluge:), and it means "before the Flood." As in the Biblical Flood documented in Genesis 6. The first six chapters of Genesis record the generations from the Fall to the Flood. Lives were long, mankind proliferated, worldwide wickedness increased. But in the midst of growing antediluvian evil, men of women of faith still walked with God! Let's step back into the Faith of Hall of Fame and consider Hebrews 10:38-11:7. Look closely at verse one: "Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen." I.e. faith has two characteristics that help you live with endurance (re 10: 38,39): faith holds fast to God's promises, it brings the future near; faith sees the unseen, the eyes of faith see spiritual realities. So, faith brings hope near and faith makes the unseen clear. This morning we'll see that "faith flourished before the Flood: 1.) Abel – faith in worship (v.4); 2.) Enoch – faith in daily life (v.5); 3.) Noah – faith in obedience (v.7); 4.) What do these men teach us about faith – the essential grace (v.6)?
