This expository sermon presents Mark's account of the core aspects of the gospel (see 1 Cor. 15:3-4): the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus. He presents three witnesses of the fact that Jesus truly died. Then God providentially arranged for a proper burial of Jesus, which would provide evidence of the resurrection. Joseph of Arimathea provided the tomb, and the women planned to anoint his body. Then the evidence of His resurrection was provided as the stone was rolled away and the angel announced his resurrection to the women. In addition to providing proof that Jesus is the Son of God and that God accepted His sacrifice for sin, one key lesson of this text is that we should not allow fear to silence our witness regarding Christ.
