Here is a message that resulted from a burden Pastor Chris Anderson felt to preach on the awkward topic of money. It's a message culled from all over scripture; a message Pastor Chris himself called “some random thoughts.” But here is a helpful biblical perspective to get us thinking rightly about our personal finances. Read this excerpt.
“Study scripture on these things. Study a simple book like [the Treasure Principle by Randy Alcorn] … but be serious about finances. God owns everything. He wants you to meet your obligations and plan for the future and manage well what belongs to Him. He wants you to give generously, and the tithe is a great starting point.
“Maybe you could do more than that.
“By doing so you're expressing faith. You're expressing His worth. You're growing. And you're fighting against the covetousness that Christ warned about in Luke 12. Beware of covetousness. Fight it! Fight it by being a better manager and a more generous giver, and maybe God will say as He does in Malachi 3 . . . Try me. Test me and see if I don't open the doors of heaven and bless you more than you've ever expected.
“That's the math of stewardship from the scriptures.”
