As the Savior slowly reveals Himself to the Jews in Jerusalem and the countryside of Galilee, He causes no small amount of turmoil and dissention among those to whom He speaks and shows Himself by mighty wonders. His doctrine and practices create such a stir that differing factions begin to emerge. In the text today, His sudden appearance in the temple precincts highlights the two main factions: those who are increasingly opposed to Him and seek His violent end, and those who see and hear Him and respond with a believing wonderment. It is beyond debate that they all know Him in one way; the physical/material. They know His hometown, they know His family. They know His face, and they know His effect on people. But there is a way in which many of do not know Him. They are blind to His divinity, and they misunderstand His doctrine. They see and hear, and yet they do not see and hear. (Isaiah 44:18) In the midst of all this confusion and dissent, the text gives us a ray of hope; many of the people believed in Him. – Pastor Schlegel
