How we in the church (as Christians) are to love one another.
But John in this passage does not leave “love” as a hollow word, devoid of content. John shows us exactly what he means - he shows us what biblical love looks like.
He does this by giving us two example. The first example is the negative. It was what love is NOT. Here he uses Cain - the son of Adam and Eve. And as the second, the positive example is the Lord Jesus Christ Himself. John is setting up this contrast so that we can identify how we are to love one another.
