Isaiah 50:4-9 is the third of the four Servant Songs in Isaiah. Verse 7, "I set my face like a flint," reveals the absolute commitment of the Servant to fulfill his mission according to the will of God. In Luke 9:51, Jesus states that he has "set his face to go to Jerusalem." It is in Jerusalem, he says, that all the prophets have died and it is there that he must go to die on the cross as the curse and sacrifice for his people. Although it was a terrifying prospect for the Innocent One to bear the sins of multitudes, Jesus plunged ahead to the destiny of the cross and because of his obedience we are saved. Thanks be to Jesus Christ now and forever!
