Joseph of Arimathea was a prominent member of the Sanhedrin, the group of men who plotted to arrest and execute Jesus. But he was not like many of the other members. He was described as 'a good and just man, who had not consented to their decision and deed.' Joseph was a disciple of Jesus. He could have been a mighty instrument, in his position. But until the crucifixion, he kept his faith a secret. He is described as 'a disciple of Jesus, but secretly, for fear of the Jews.' How will your spiritual epitaph read? 'A disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of her mother?' 'A disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of his teachers?' '...secretly, for fear of his employer?' '...secretly, or fear of her husband?' There came a time, in Joseph's life, when he took Jesus at His word: 'Blessed are you, when men revile you, and persecute you, and say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice and be exceeding glad, for great is your reward in heaven.'
