Christ is on the land. His disciples are out by themselves on the sea. Here is not a massive storm but it is a contrary one... a difficult one... a challenging one. It doesn't seem to have come suddenly. It is just a day of choppy waters and contrary wind. John says it was great wind. I am sure they were not making much head way in this storm. Again it didn't come upon them suddenly it was just there in their present situation.
Life is like that. We have sudden trials that come out of nowhere. We also have days or periods of time where we are just facing a strong contrary wind and choppy waters. That is what we have in our story. But here we learn... 1. Christ is the Lord of the Storm. 2. That not every bold act on our part is an act of faith... it can be of the flesh. 3. That we often create our own crisis of faith. 4. In the crisis of faith the problem is always weak faith. 5. The answer to the contrary winds of life is a prevailing faith... here we will learn what is prevailing faith.
