As Paul continues his instruction regarding spiritual gifts and their use, he moves on to make the point that for any gift to be effectivedly used, it must be done so in the context and exercise of love.
This love is very same kind of love demonstrated to us by God in the provision of His Son as the sacrifice for our sin. Understanding the love of God in any sense begins with an understanding of our sin. God is love, God loved and God gave. The love of God being a defining characteristic of His nature and will be of our new nature. Without a biblical understanding of the love of God and the context in which it is shown to us, and will be produced in us - we will not understand how we are to exercise our gifts and what is to be accomplished.
He makes three points as he begins his argument - 1. Without love we produce nothing of value. 2. Without love we are of no value. 3. Without love we gain nothing of value.
