. If our love is attached to the local church based on how it's doing at anytime well then we'll love it some days and not others. Our love for the local church needs to be attached not to our nostalgia for the past or our vision of what it could be in the future but it needs to be a love for it in the here and now for what it is... right now what it is... we love the church because under the flailings and failures of the local church lies the reality of the wonder and glory of the invisible body of Christ. Hebrews 12:23 calls it the general assembly and church of the firstborn who are registered in heaven. This invisible church is the church that, Paul's tells us in Ephesians 5, Christ gave himself for her in order to that He might cleanse her, wash her and present her to himself as a glorious church present it to himself as a pure and spotless bride, holy and faultless. Now he has done that and this is a picture of the church as Christ sees it even now before his throne. It is a picture of the church that exist invisibly under the stuff that makes up the local church. So love it... Give yourself for it... Christ did and we can do no less.
