In Mark 11:12-25, we see that the first thing King Jesus does after His arrival to Jerusalem is to go into the Temple in fulfillment of the prophet's words: "the Lord whom you seek will suddenly come to his temple" (Mal 3:1). But Jesus did not suddenly show up to affirm or even to reform their worship. Jesus came to pronounce judgment, shutting down the sacrificial system. It's Monday, four days before Jesus's death, and the question for the religious leaders was not whether to kill Jesus but how it should best be done given His popularity.
