One of the main themes in Genesis 16 is also about seeing things – both literally and figuratively. We see this in verses 2, 4, 6, 13, and 14. The lesson is that we cannot always trust what we see or think. And even more importantly this text shows us the folly of human reason and the grace of God in the midst of our own foolishness. Both Proverbs 14:12 and 16:25 read, There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death. Beware of your great ideas. We will look at this text in two parts. First from verses 1-6, the folly of human logic apart from God's promise, and second, the grace of God to those in distress from verses 7-16.
