Paul shows that sanctification is a consequence of being joined to Christ. This is because Christ's death and resurrection means the old man is truly dead and a new creation has come into existence and thus believers are not to try and put to death the old man. The believer is a new man, so his fight against remaining sin is not a fight against the old man, who is already dead and will never rise again. The only deliverance from the dominion of sin is death and Christ died for this purpose. So when Paul says Christ He dies no more, he is saying that He will never again come under its dominion. Thus, to be joined to Christ, through faith, means the believer will never again come under sin's dominion.
