Though the coming of the law reveals the magnitude of man's sin, Paul says the fruit of Christ's righteousness is far greater than fruit of disobedience. By showing the depths of man's depravity, the glory of God's grace and mercy is exalted, but this doesn't mean we should sin, thinking that this will increase God's glory. The reason sin no longer dominates God's children is because they died to sin. Paul then shows, theologically, why this is so. He bases it upon the reality of our union with Christ in His death, burial and resurrection. He uses baptism in this text primarily to refer to this covenantal union and thus, water baptism should not be the first thing that comes to mind.
