The book of Joshua can be divided into three parts.
In Joshua 1-4 we see Israel entering the land.
In Joshua 5-12 we see Israel conquering the land.
In Joshua 13-24 we see is well possessing the land.
If you study the history of Israel you will discover that Israel faced two main dangers in the Promised Land and they were:
1. The danger of the Canaanites.
2. The was the danger of Compromise.
The Canaanites were the enemy of Israel in the Promised Land and they were an evil people and a very violent people.
In obedience to the Lord’s commands Israel was to drive the Canaanites out of the Promised Land.
You will find that in the Book of Numbers God warned the Israelites of the consequences of not driving the Canaanites out of the land.
Num 33:55 NKJV But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then it shall be that those whom you let remain shall be irritants in your eyes and thorns in your sides, and they shall harass you in the land where you dwell.
Now as you study the history of the people of God in the Old Testament we must learn both from their mistakes and their victories.
Old testament events and Old Testament people are an example for us to learn from.
Christians today are increasingly living in Canaanite like Country.
Today the truth of God’s Word is under attack in Australia like never before and we as God’s people have got to be prepared to defend the truth.
1. The danger of the Canaanites.
2. The was the danger of Compromise.
The nation of Israel forgot the Lord their God because they compromised with the enemies and they ended up serving the gods of the land.
