We’ve been going through the book of Joshua, and today in Joshua chapter 20 we come to the part where the Bible talks about the cities of refuge.
Now when you go through the Book of Joshua you’ll find pictures of Jesus contained within the Book.
Actually if you go through every book in the Old Testament you will find something or someone or some words that point to Christ. Let me show you.
Joshua was commanded by the Lord to set up Cities of Refuge.
If someone in Joshua’s day was killed accidentally then the next of Kin, the father, son, brother or uncle could hunt down the killer down.
Accidental killing today is called Manslaughter and today there are penalties in our Law system for those that commit manslaughter.
In Joshua’s day if someone killed someone accidentally then they could flee to one of the Cities of Refuge to avoid being killed by the next of kin of the deceased.
Exodus 21.12 NKJV “He who strikes a man so that he dies shall surely be put to death. 13 However, if he did not lie in wait, but God delivered him into his hand, then I will appoint for you a place where he may flee.
The Cities of Refuge picture for us the Mercy and Refuge that we find in our Saviour the Lord Jesus.
