1 ¶ After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward. After all this happens, God appears to Abram again in a vision for the 4th time. God announces 2 things to Abram in this vision: the kings who were mad at him were destroyed because God is his shield; and Abram will have exceeding great reward because he didn't take the bad kings wealth and possessions. God will be Abram's great reward. 2 ¶ And Abram said, Lord GOD, what wilt thou give me, seeing I go childless, and the steward of my house is this Eliezer of Damascus? The foremost thing on Abram's mind is not wealth but the lack of heirs. In those times if you didn't have any children to be heirs, you picked out someone in your household to leave all your stuff to. 3 And Abram said, Behold, to me thou hast given no seed: and, lo, one born in my house is mine heir. 4 And, behold, the word of the LORD came unto him, saying, This shall not be thine heir; but he that shall come forth out of thine own bowels shall be thine heir. God emphatically tells Abram that Eliezer is not going to be his heir. God says Abram is going to have a natural child… just be patient. 5 And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be. God tells Abram that he will have as many descendents as there are stars in the sky. The Muslims, Jews, Christianity all claim Abram as their father. They number in the billions. 6 And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness. This verse is so incredibly ....... |
