God trains us for a task, and that task is connected to who we are in Christ! Who are we? We are a royal, holy priesthood! As a priest, our primary function is to represent the people before God! We are called to be worshippers of Him. Our secondary function is to represent God before the people, to be proclaimers of the truth. This sermon explores the first function, that of being a worshipper of God! We come to the 'living stone', that is, to Jesus Christ, the cornerstone of God's kingdom program, the foundation stone of the church. And as 'living stones' we are built as a spiritual house to offer up spiritual sacrifices in worship of God. Every believer is a priest! We all have access to God through Jesus Christ by the power of the Spirit of God. And we offer to him spiritual sacrifices: our praise, our good works, our charity, our converts, and yes, even our bodies as living sacrifices. But the living stone whom we worship is also a rock of stumbling and offense to those who refuse to come to Christ in faith. One cannot remain neutral concerning Jesus Christ. Either one loves Him or hates Him, accepts Him or rejects Him! And the stone rejected becomes the stumbling stone, the stone of God's crushing judgment.
