Today, we will find Jesus teaching in the temple. Instead of being questioned, He would be the one asking the question. He poses an importance question about the identity of the Christ. In the Old Testament and up until that time, the world was waiting for the Messiah to arrive especially the Jews who had received the Scriptures to live by. There was a promise of a Redeemer who would pay the ransom price to free sinners from the bondage of sin. The Christ or Messiah would be the Anointed One chosen by God to crush the head of the serpent and defeat death forever by one obedient act. Israel had longed for a day of consolation and the day had arrived. Jesus was standing before them, and He asks them a question to elevate their view of the Christ who was standing for them. Would they see Him as the Son of David? Would they see Him as David’s Lord? Would they see Jesus who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man (Hebrews 2:9). This morning we want to answer this question, “Who is the Christ?” We will consider 1) The Christ is David’s Son 2) The Christ is David’s Lord 3) The Christ is Jesus—Jesus Christ- Lord of All.
