There is a time when the storms are going to come. We are in a storm, coming out of the storm, or are in a storm; we've all heard this before. The prophet when writing here begins his book with a storm of judgment and then suddenly places a verse about God and His goodness right there for all to see. Nahum pauses to show us something about our great God. That God is an safe island in the time of storm. For an island to be safe it must have three things: food (including water), shelter and eventually rescue. The Lord is good; He is the food and water we need to survive before, during, and after the storm has raged. He is good in His judgments and His punishments. As a strong hold, God is the perfect fortified shelter that we need in the midst of the storm. Not some flimsy piece of plastic that will fail when the wind howls but rock solid standing in defiance from all that Satan throws at us. While the destruction is all around us we need something that is sturdy, unshakeable, and tested; by definition that is God. God is all this and more so that we can go to Him. He knows those that are His and He will bring the rescue. He has promised it just keep looking for it. The rescue may not come quickly enough for us, but it will come right on time every time.
