Many ask why there is so much evil in the world. The answer is simple—sin. Sin is nothing new. It entered this world shortly after Creation. Adam plunged the human race into sin and under its curse. Sin has reigned in the world ever since. The first century Christians in Galatia were living in an evil world that was hostile to Christianity. Many of them had suffered persecution from friends and neighbors. They even began to suffer persecution from religious leaders that began teaching them that they must adhere to the Old Testament Law if they wanted to obtain God’s favor. It’s simple, when you want God’s favor and you’re living in an evil world, you tend to think that if you obey God’s Law He’ll be happy with you and protect you from the evil around you. In the opening of this letter, Paul quickly points us to the cross of Jesus Christ.
Only Jesus Christ can rescue the world from sin and evil.
