Paul has reminded the children of the congregation to be attentive in keeping the Fifth Commandment. He gave two encouragements to the children: Firstly, because it is righteous to obey their parents - both in the sense of being a just act, but we may also understand it as being a fruit of true faith. Secondly, because it is the first commandment with promise and God will bless them for obeying their Dad and Mom. However, the Apostle sees a further obstacle to the obedience of the child - their fathers:
