The Book of Ephesians presents much invaluable theology and has been called "little Romans." In this passage we see that salvation is the result of God's initiative. Our spiritual blessings' source is in heaven; i.e, in God himself, as well as "in Christ." He chose us, not because of any inherent good we had, but only because of his plan. Because God chose us according to his purpose, we cannot boast but only give thanks. Through Jesus Christ we have been adopted - again, this is God's initiative. God saves his people, not primarily for their sake, but so his grace and character could be displayed. God, not we ourselves, is the most important person in the universe. But those mercifully chosen in Christ receive inestimable blessings.
