How Can I be Successful? Joshua 1:6-9 Joshua is a story of God's ancient people going into Canaan. The land of Canaan represented, in that day, victory for the Israelites, but in a sacred sense it represents the land of victory for those of us who live in America today. They had come out of the wilderness and into the Promised Land. If you're tired of being a wilderness wanderer and want to be a Canaan conqueror, then pay attention. What is success? Well, when we define it, we need to understand that there are all kinds of things that are called success that are not. Failure is succeeding at the wrong thing. Success is finding and doing the will of God. But how should Christians really measure success? We may consider one Christian more successful than the other if he seems to be better at keeping the commandments of God. Oh I know we would never admit to that, but we do it – subconsciously if nothing else. I'm guilty of measuring myself up to other Christians. "How did I perform today?" These that go through our heads, and I take hold of these thoughts, nail them to the cross, and find better things to ponder on. The measurement of success is simply the ratio of talents used to talents received. What you are doing with what you've got, plus who you are becoming. Are you a growing, maturing Christian? Whether you work in business, or in Christian work, or as a day laborer, professional, or academic, if you are a maturing Christian, using a large percentage of your talents, you are successful.
