In this week's passage, Acts 28:7-16, we continue to see good will expressed toward those who were shipwrecked. They were taken to the estate of the leading man on the island, Publius, who entertained them for three days. His father was sick and Paul laid hands on him and healed him which caused many others on the island who had diseases also come to be healed. This is a clear picture of God blessing those who bless His people, especially those who do it unaware. When spring came, they went aboard another ship and now had favorable winds allowing them to make good time. When they got near to Rome, they stopped at Puteoli and God blessed them with finding brethren that they are able to stay with for seven days. As they continued toward Rome, probably now on foot, the brethren came from Rome to meet them. Probably some of these people are old friends, like Priscilla and Aquila, but others, Paul probably knew by reputation and now got to meet the for the first time. Romans 16 shows all of the friends that Paul has in Rome. Paul was very thankful and much encouraged by seeing them. It's always an encouragement to see those who you have not seen for sometime persevering in the faith, as many are like the seed that goes on the rocky ground or is entangled by the weeds where their faith is not proved to be genuine when the day of trial comes.
