This Lords' Day we will be looking at what the Scripture has to say with regard to the theme of covetousness. The message is entitled Guarding the Affections of the Heart. We will build a theology of desire and covetousness, looking at God's desires for us, the competing desires of our hearts, as well as developing in some detail the differences between good desires and bad desires (coveting). I am hopeful these reminders from the Word will cause us to reflect and consider just how well we have been appropriating the resources and weighting the marvelous promises in Christ that God has graciously given. It would be a good soul-work to consider as well where we might need to make correctives with the competing affections and attitudes of our hearts. My study has certainly stretched me this week. Hope it will do the same for you. It is definitely a struggle at times to find ongoing success in this critically important area of the Christian life, yet sometimes we make it harder than it has to be. My agenda is to make it easier! Could I encourage you to readDeuteronomy 5:1-21 as well as 1 Timothy 6:6-19 as preparation for our worship time together.
