This Sunday we continue our series on Galatians, in particular 3:15-22 where Paul declares 'the law does not set aside the covenant previously established by God and thus do away with the promise'. If it is not by works of the law that we are saved, then what is the purpose of the law? Pauls raises this and answers his own question - the law was added 'because of transgressions, UNTIL the Seed to whom the promise referred had come.' The law comes in, subservient to the promise, but never replacing it. In fact, it holds us as prisoners of sin, and leads us to the only place, or rather, only person, who can free us from its bondage - Christ! So that those who believe might receive the promises and blessings of God, through faith in Him.
