The book of Judges chronicles a unique period in human history. God had by merciful grace delivered His children from their bondage in Egypt. He had led them by the hand of Moses through their years of wandering. He led them by the guidance of Joshua until they came to the promised land. In the period of the judges the people went in a cycle of rejecting God and doing what was right in their own eyes. There was no permanent season of tranquility in the land. Before we move forward to Ruth I want to set the scene for that book by viewing the failure and corruption of God's people under the judges.
