This week we will be looking at part 2 of "The Battle Continues." Last week we watched Israel enter into a covenant with the Gibeonites. They were alone in the land, confident from their victories, and had just returned to God with the reading of the law. Surely at such a point at time they were at their strongest. Yet the battle never rests. It is here that the nations start to gather together and here that the Gibeonites plan out their deception. Israel, as we know, falls short of God's command. They forget to ask God for His wisdom and enter into a covenant with this city of the land. The encouraging part starts here. Joshua recognizes that they can't touch the people they have sworn to preserve. So the first part was that He does right. The second is just as important. With the people complaining about the covenant, it would have been easy to have used their agreement to make the Gibeonites slaves to the children of Israel. Yet this would have brought them into the people and caused compromises. Instead Joshua commands them to provide the wood and water for the tabernacle. This was a form of giving them to the Lord. It provides help, but isolates them from Israel and preserves Israel's purity. Now we see the second part of this battle. Join us as we look at the battle where God listens to the voice of a man.
