SERMON INFO
The Spirit & Power of Elijah - Message 11 - Do We Look for Another? John the Baptist is a bold and mighty prophet, proclaiming the truth of the coming Messiah and His Kingdom and calling all to repent from their sin. Knowing that "all have sinned" he preached this message to potentates, politicians, priests, pharisees, and everyday people. Some responded to his message and repented and were baptized. Other reacted and lashed out. King Herod despised John and his message and threw him in prison. While in prison John sent 2 of his disciples to Jesus to ask if He really was the One, or if he needed to look for another. Here we see the one who Jesus said was more than a prophet, he was the greatest man ever born. He was bold, courageous, confrontational, and consistent in his preaching, even identifying Jesus as the "Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world." But even as Elijah fled from Jezebel and hid in a cave, thinking he was the only prophet left and hoping in his despair to die - so John sank into depression and doubt. The answer that Jesus gives John and his disciples is an answer that points to the Scripture. He tells John to look and see that all that Jesus was doing was in fulfillment of the Scriptures. Sometimes we forget how powerful the Word of God really is. We overlook how necessary it is to everyday life and how needed it is in times of doubt and despair. We claim to believe the Bible, but do we really understand how vital it is to our daily walk? Together we will see what happens when the greatest man is pointed to the greatest book so that he might know the greatest truth ever preached. There is no need to look for another - Jesus is the Christ.
