We all love the hymn “Amazing Grace” — The second stanza says, “'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, And grace my fear relieved…” This popular hymn teaches that it takes the grace of God to fear Him and it also takes that same grace to relieve our fears. Fearing God, in the end, is a work of God's grace. That is why warning someone who is not a believer often does little for them. They don't “fear” God in the least. That is summary declaration of the unrighteous in Paul's writings: Rom. 3:18, “THERE IS NO FEAR OF GOD BEFORE THEIR EYES.” Peter tells us to “conduct yourselves with fear throughout the time of your exile” (v. 17). That will be the focus of our attention today.
