Four times in our Lord's ministry he teaches the necessity of a work of grace in the heart, affecting our lives. Without which we will not be part of his kingdom, we shall perish having no spiritual life in us and no fruitfulness.
Each of these four times these two words preface that which is vitally needed. "Except ye"
Except ye be converted – No Kingdom And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 18:3)
Except ye repent – Ye shall perish I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. (Luke 13:3)
Except ye feed on Christ by Faith – No life in you Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. (John 6:53)
Except ye abide in Christ – No Fruitfulness Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. (John 15:4)
