Tempted to Make Bread - Matthew 4:2-4 I. The Temptation II. The Subtlety III. The Response
Romans 14:17 For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost.
This sermon outlines what the first temptation really was. Jesus was on the path of suffering to Calvary to establish the Kingdom of Righteousness. The first temptation was tempting Jesus to create a kingdom of Bread: a new way that creates an earthly kingdom in a way free from suffering. This is the same temptation brought to the church today. The Christian re-constructionists and post-millennial falls into this temptation with mission work that brings bread at the expense of bringing scripture and preaching. A subtle temptation by the devil. Our response to fighting temptation from the Devil must be to fight with the strength of scripture as Jesus did in quoting from Deuteronomy 8:3.
