Aim: To learn how to ''come to grips'' with sin and deal ruthlessly with it.
Exegesis: Step one: Let us hail our God. We must humble ourselves (v. 6), express ourselves (v. 7), and examine ourselves (vv. 8-9). Step two: Let us hear our God. He will get our attention (v. 10a) and allegiance (v. 10b). Step three: Let us heed our God. We must recognize our sins (v. 11), regret our sins (v. 12a), and repent of our sins (v. 12b).
Key verse: v. 1 ''Then Joshua tore his clothes, and fell to the earth on his face before the ark of the LORD until evening, he and the elders of Israel; and they put dust on their heads.''
