“The Marriage Supper of the Lamb” Revelation 19:6-9
Introduction (Isa. 54:6; Psa. 45; Eph. 5:22-33)
I. The Marriage of the Lamb (vv. 6-7a
In Christ the bride was chosen from eternity. Throughout the entire OT dispensation, the wedding was announced. Next, the Son of God assumed our flesh and blood; the betrothal took place. The price – the dowry – was paid on Calvary. And now, after an interval, which in the eyes of God is but a little while, the bridegroom returns and “the marriage of the lamb has come” (Rev. 19:7). The Church on earth yearns for this moment, so does the church in heaven.—William Hendriksen
“Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the lamb has come …”
II. How You are to Prepare for this Marriage (vv. 7b-8)
“… His bride has made herself ready; it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure— for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints.”
The bride can prepare herself only when God provides the wedding gown for her; this garment that God gives is beautiful and pure. Her own clothes are but filthy rags, but Christ cleanses her and presents her to himself without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish.—Simon J. Kistemaker
