How do you know you have an interest in Christ? By having an interest in Christ, I mean you own him, for yourself, in the same way that someone can own a share in a company. By interest, I mean a legal claim. Can you say, Jesus is mine? Jesus spoke of a similar situation when he tells the parable of the 10 virgins in Matthew 25. These 10 were supposed to be ready and watching because the groom was going to come and escort everyone to the celebration and if you weren't ready, you would be left behind. There were 5 ladies who were not ready. And they were left behind. They went by themselves to the celebration and knocked on the door, but were left out. People can claim all the things they want and that they will be able to go before God and say "heaven is my right because I did this or that." What a terrible day that will be when God's judgment falls on them. And they will be left out because they had no real interest in Jesus. What matters most is not what we claim for ourselves. What matters most is who will claim us. Do you have an interest in Christ? Do you have a share in Christ? Not only can you say "Jesus is mine", but will Jesus say "you are mine. I purchased you with my own blood."
