After describing the various types of bread that could be offered to approach God, God now related through Moses other aspects of the grain offering. It could not be mixed with leaven or honey, a picture that the word of God is to be unmixed with things to make it more pleasing. Nothing that is tied to the burnt offering can have leaven or honey in it. Then a distinction is made between the tithe offerings, the offerings of the firstfruits, they were not to be burned. They were to be waved. Any offering, whether a tithe offering or any other grain offering, it had to be offered with salt as a sign of the covenant. Salt is a picture of joy. An offering that is not offered cheerfully is not an acceptable offering to God. If you offer grain that was just harvested as a voluntary offering, it cannot be offered green. It must first be roasted on the fire without the chaff. It must be mixed with oil and frankincense, just like all of the other grain offerings.
