Aim: To further develop as churchmen who ''put on Christ.''
Doctrine: The very existence of our depravity actually gives occasion for our expression of the new life. This is of God's own design, and this keeps us dependent upon Christ.
Exegesis: The grace necessary to reject the old life, and demonstrate the new one: the heart must be prepared (for proper speech) (v. 29); God's work must be treasured (above all other considerations) (v. 30); the flesh must be crucified (so that the Spirit may flow through us) (v. 31).
Further application: Contextual helps to attaining that which is ''humanly impossible'': remember that victory is only had by our putting on Christ, which requires that we take off old Adam.
Key verse: v. 29 ''Let no corrupt work proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.''
